National Spring Clean Month Launched at New Airlie Park

This year’s South Dublin County Council ‘National Spring Clean’ was officially launched at the Council’s new Airlie Park in Lucan on Tuesday. The event that runs for the month of April was welcomed by local Sinn Féin Councillor Derren Ó Brádaigh.

Cllr Ó Brádaigh said;

“I was delighted that the Council took the decision to formally launch the month-long event right here in Lucan. National Spring Clean is Ireland’s largest anti-litter initiative, running throughout the month of April. Interested community groups are encouraged by Council staff and can apply for assistance in organising local clean ups. Community groups and individuals make huge efforts county and countrywide all year round, however I was very pleased for the local community, that our local Council officially launched this one in the new Airlie Park.

The Councillor said;

“The support by Council staff is not only very noteworthy but is also a recognition of the efforts of the local Adamstown Spring Cleaning Group and the Bigtree Community Group, that are working with the Council to now establish a formal Adamstown Tidy Towns Group. As a resident, I enjoy working alongside residents to help make our local area and wider community a better place for us all to live and enjoy.

Cllr Ó Brádaigh also said;

“The National Spring Clean campaign Ireland is the largest and longest running anti-litter campaign. It is operated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce and supported by local authorities. Tuesday’s event was attended by the South Dublin County Council Mayor, some local councillors and staff from the parks department.

Ó Brádaigh concluded by saying;

“Over the past 25 years, through the National Spring Clean, over 85,000 clean-ups have been organized with 42,000 tons of litter have been removed. 12 million hours of work have been put in by volunteers and this is a massive endorsement of the commitment of every one of us that refuse to allow our communities and our environment to become overrun with litter and illegal dumping.”
